Paediatric Trainee Programme
The two hospitals of New Territories East Cluster (NTEC), namely the Prince of Wales Hospital and Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, share the same Paediatric Training Programme. Paediatric trainees are required to undergo a minimum of 6 years’ training (3 years’ of basic and 3 years’ of higher training) before becoming Specialist in Paediatrics.
In the first 3 years of training, trainees will rotate through Neonatology, Paediatric Intensive Care and General Paediatrics. They will also undergo training in Maternal & Child Health Centres and Child Assessment Centres run by the Department of Health. For their higher training, trainees will spend at least 6 months at another training centre as an elective exchange. The higher trainee will receive advanced training in the subspecialty of their choice.
Subspecialty training provided in NTEC includes Neonatology, Paediatric Intensive Care, General Paediatrics, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Respirology & Sleep Medicine, Neurology, Genetics, Infectious Diseases and Immunology.
