Biography

Dr. Eugene Chan is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Paediatrics of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He works in the Paediatric Nephrology Centre of Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, which is the designated, territory-wide referral centre in Hong Kong. 


His research interests include nephrotic syndrome, lupus nephritis, kidney failure and onconephrology. Over the past few years, he has established an international collaborative research network on nephrotic syndrome involving over 30 paediatric nephrology centres in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. His work has been published in top peer-reviewed nephrology journals including Kidney International and the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.


He serves as a Co-Chair (Webinar) in the Professional Education Committee of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association and has contributed significantly to medical education in advancing global kidney care for children. He also works as an Associate Editor in Kidney International and a Section Editor in Pediatric Nephrology. Locally, he is a Council Member of the Hong Kong Paediatric Nephrology Society. 


In recognition of his research and clinical contribution to the field of paediatric nephrology, he has received several international and local honours including the Young Nephrologist Award from the International Society of Nephrology, Young Investigator Award from the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology, Young Achiever Award from the Hospital Authority, as well as Distinguished Young Fellow and Gold Medal for Best Original Research from the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.
