Clinical Services
The Division provides a large variety of in-patient services ranging from managing children with simple renal disorders such as urinary tract infection to complicated problems such as acute renal failure. We provide consultation service to hospitalized children with kidney disorders in General Paediatric Wards, Paediatric Surgical Wards, Neonatal and in Paediatric Intensive Care Units. Advanced renal treatment modalities provided include renal biopsy and renal replacement therapy with peritoneal dialysis or haemofiltration/ haemodialysis.
Outpatient patients are seen at Renal Clinic at Li Ka Shing Specialist Clinic. Renal patients requiring regular follow up include those with chronic renal failure, nephrotic syndrome, reflux nephropathy, proteinuria, haematuria, hypertension, and congenital kidney disorders.
For more complex disorders and especially for patients with chronic renal failure requiring long term dialysis, close liaison and referral to the renal unit of Hong Kong Children’s Hospital is made to ensure patients receive necessary expert management.
Educational activities
The Division provides education to medical students of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The staff provide public education through lectures and contribution to health education materials.
Research opportunities
On-going research projects includes assessment and management of antenatal hydronephrosis, and investigation into the prevelance of acute kidney injury in patients admitted into paediatric intensive care unit, in collaboration with Hong Kong Children’s Hospital.
